Cozy Oyster Stew

Introduction

It’s official soup and stew season! (Soup szn for the young folk 😉 ) Although I love soup year-round, I really appreciate it in the Fall. Soup is so underrated! Side dish? Main dish? Lunch? Dinner? Soup is your answer. I hope you enjoy another Charleston recipe from my great grandma!

Ingredients You Will Need

  • 1 pint shucked oysters
  • 3/4 stick of butter
  • 4-6 cups of milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • saltine crackers
  • oyster crackers

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a sauce pan
  2. Add oysters and oyster liquid
  3. Just as the oysters begin to curl at the edges, add milk
  4. Just before the milk boils, remove from heat
  5. Add salt and pepper to taste and crumble enough saltine crackers to give desired body to the stew (Nanny used 1/2 pack of crackers)
  6. I enjoy some oyster crackers on the side
  7. Enjoy!
