Easy Orange Nut Squares

Introduction

I associate these orange nut squares with Halloween and October, because my great grandma used to make these for her card parties around this time of year. As an only child, traditions mean the world to me to keep memories alive. I hope you enjoy this Charleston traditional treat with your family and friends just like we do years later!

Ingredients You Will Need

  • 1 cup of pecans (I prefer halved)
  • 2 eggs
  • 12 orange candies (I prefer Ferrara Candy Orange Slices)
  • 1 cup of self-rising flour
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sprinkle of powdered sugar

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Cream together brown sugar and eggs
  3. Using a wet pair of scissors, cut orange candies up into small pieces and dust with flour
  4. Add remaining flour to egg mixture
  5. Fold orange candy pieces into the batter
  6. Spread into greased 9×9 inch pan lined with wax paper
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes
  8. Turn out onto a wire rack
  9. Peel off the wax paper while still hot and sprinkle with powdered sugar
